Switching from GEM-CAR to MyGaragio
GEM-CAR is shop management software made in Quebec, in French and English, available in the cloud and as a desktop version (GEM-CAR 14). Here’s how to bring your customers, vehicles and history into MyGaragio.
What comes over
- Customers with phones, emails, addresses and notes — matched to anyone already in MyGaragio by phone, email or name.
- Vehicles with VIN, plate, year, make, model and mileage, linked to their owners.
- Service history: past visits become paid repair orders, with their jobs matched to your service menu — so reminders, wear forecasts and customer history work from day one.
- Parts inventory with quantities, costs and prices.
- Your repair order numbering carries on where the old system stopped.

- Photos, inspection pictures and attachments

- User accounts and passwords — you invite your team in a minute

Exporting your data from GEM-CAR
Follow these steps, then drop the files into MyGaragio’s import screen.
- Cloud version: export your customers from Paramètres ▸ Importez/Exportez ▸ Clients (with your data).
- Export your vehicles from Véhicules ▸ Générer un document Excel.
- Export your invoices from Ventes ▸ Rapports ▸ Factures ▸ Exporter vers Excel.
- Export your stock from Paramètres ▸ Importez/Exportez ▸ Produits et services ▸ Quantités en inventaire.
- GEM-CAR 14 (desktop): use Rapports ▸ Clients ▸ Liste des clients (Détaillé) and the sales reports, exported to Excel.
- In MyGaragio, open Settings ▸ Import & export (or the Welcome screen of a new shop) and drop every file at once. Check what MyGaragio found in each file and the columns it matched, then import.
Good to know
- French column names (Nom, Téléphone, Courriel, Code postal…) are recognized.
- Use the invoice report (Factures) for your history: GEM-CAR’s sales list also holds estimates and appointments.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to move from GEM-CAR?
Plan an hour or two to export the files and check the import. The import itself takes minutes, even with years of history.
Can I try it before switching for good?
Yes. Import a recent export during the free trial; on switch day, import a fresh export — the same customers and visits aren’t added twice.
What if a column isn’t recognized?
You choose the match yourself before importing, and an import can be undone. For anything unusual, write to us at support@mygaragio.com.
